THE BRIEF
Sims Metal needed to upgrade their Pinkenba amenities building to support growing staff numbers, covering a new lunch room, training rooms, and change areas. All work had to be delivered inside a fully operational heavy industrial facility.
OUR APPROACH
Working inside a live industrial facility meant every phase required careful staging and strict compliance with Sims Metal’s site safety systems. Unknown subsurface conditions added risk ahead of hydraulic works; ground scanning uncovered a live mains electrical supply beneath the slab, which was isolated in a controlled window to allow safe penetration with minimal disruption to operations.
During the project, J&D Contracting:
- Staged all works to keep the facility operational throughout
- Identified and managed a live mains electrical supply beneath the slab
- Coordinated multiple trades within strict client safety requirements
- Replaced the roof, upgraded all services, and delivered full internal fitout
- Installed accessible amenities and brought the building to current code
Project Outcomes
Sims Metal received a modern, fully compliant amenities facility with improved comfort, accessibility, and durability. Practical Completion was achieved with minimal defects, and the client noted strong satisfaction with J&D’s communication and collaborative approach throughout.
