THE BRIEF
J&D Contracting were engaged to refurbish the ground floor administration facilities at Wavell State High School, reconfiguring the existing layout to deliver a significantly modernised, compliant and functional administration hub that aligned with the current operational and accessibility requirements of the school. The project was programmed for completion during the end of year school holiday period.
OUR APPROACH
J&D Contracting delivered a full internal reconfiguration of the existing administration areas, including a new reception, student services area, meeting rooms, offices, sick bay and staff kitchen facilities.
During demolition, asbestos-containing material was identified within the existing vinyl flooring. These works were immediately classified as out-of-scope, with licensed contractors engaged to undertake safe removal and remediation prior to construction continuing.
Remediation was completed over the Christmas period, enabling the school administration to return in time for the new school year.
During the project, J&D Contracting:
- Demolished and reconfigured the ground floor administration layout, forming a new reception, student services area, meeting rooms, offices, sick bay and staff kitchen
- Identified additional works needed to be undertaken to out of scope areas, to ensure overall quality and consistency throughout the building on delivery of the project
- Constructed and installed custom reception, student services and kitchen joinery
- Managed project delays and worked with the school to staged construction, allowing the school administration team to return to operation at the start of the new school year, with remaining works completed with minimal disruption
Project Outcomes
The completed refurbishment delivered a modern, compliant administration facility for Wavell State High School, providing improved reception and student service areas, new staff kitchen and sick bay facilities, anddurable finishes suited to a busy school environment.
Despite the mid-program ACM discovery, workswere staged to allow the administration team to return to operation at the start of the new school year.
Practical Completion was achieved with minimal defects, and the client expressed a high level of satisfaction with J&D Contracting’s communication, transparency and rapid response throughout the project.
