THE BRIEF
J&D Contracting were engaged to refurbish and reconfigure the existing tuckshop facility at Morayfield State High School, delivering a functional, compliant commercial kitchen environment that meets Department of Education requirements. Works were delivered within a live school environment, requiring careful staging and ongoing coordination to maintain safe access and minimise disruption to daily school operations.
OUR APPROACH
J&D Contracting delivered full internal demolition and reconfiguration of the existing tuckshop, constructing a purpose-built commercial kitchen with preparation, cooking, washing, service and storage areas. Works encompassed mechanical, hydraulic and electrical upgrades, a new cold room, grease trap, commercial-grade stainless steel joinery and security installations.
When hydraulic authority approvals introduced delays of approximately six to eight weeks, J&D resequenced works to maintain programme momentum, keeping trades moving and stakeholders informed throughout.
During the project, J&D Contracting:
- Demolished and reconfigured the existing tuckshop, including removal of all benches, joinery, cold room and services
- Managed minor ACM removal and air monitoring in compliance with all regulatory requirements
- Installed underground services, new distribution board, lighting, power and mechanical services including kitchen exhaust, ventilation and air conditioning
- Supplied and installed commercial kitchen equipment, stainless steel joinery, food-grade finishes and a combi oven
- Completed security upgrades including roller shutters, security screens and cameras, and external works including slab modifications, falls correction and drainage improvements

The completed refurbishment delivers a functional, compliant and efficient tuckshop facility that supports improved day-to-day operations for staff and students.
Upgraded services, improved layout and commercial-grade finishes meet Department of Education standards while providing a durable, purpose-built kitchen environment suited to a busy school setting.
Despite programme disruptions caused by extended hydraulic approval timeframes, J&D Contracting maintained progress through proactive resequencing and consistent stakeholder communication, demonstrating their ability to manage live site constraints and deliver refurbishment works within an operational school environment.
